Quick Allergy Fixes

No matter how careful you are about your health, there are certain allergic reactionswhich can get the better of you. You might be allergic to a number of things like pollen, dust, pet hair etc. However, more often than not, signs of an allergic reaction are quite the same. You experience an itchy throat, sneezing and watery eyes.

There is no need to rush to a doctor as soon as you cite certain allergic reactions. You can easily fix these at home with some very easy methods. Here are some easy ways in which you can ward off allergies without any medical help[1].

7 Allergic Reactions Quick Fixes

1. Neti Pots

If you thought that the Neti Pots are just exotic looking and best to be used as show pieces, think again. They actually come handy when you are suffering from a serious case of sniffles, as a result of an allergic reaction. Using the pot to rinse your nasal cavity will clear any blocks and help release the mucus. Fill the pot with a mixture of warm water and salt. Tilt your head to one side, place the nozzle of the pot in one nostril and pour in the water. Keep doing this, till the water starts coming out of the other nostril. Now, repeat the same procedure the other way round.  Always use boiled water for this purpose as normal water could contain germs and bacteria.

2. Saline Spray

Using Neti pots might not be a comfortable option for many people, especially children. In such a scenario, you can go for saline sprays that are available over the counter in the market. These sprays are as effective as the Neti pots and help in reducing the congestion of nasal cavity.

3. Honey

Yes, you’ve heard it right. Eating honey can actually reduce allergic reactions. In case you have an itchy throat, mix one teaspoon of ginger juice and one teaspoon of honey and drink it. This will give you an instant relief. When bees extract the juice from flowers, they also transfer some pollen to the honey. So, consuming one teaspoon of honey every day can actually help in warding off allergic reactions and improves your immune system in the process.

4. Steam Inhalation

Inhaling steam can also help in reducing allergic reactions. This helps in relieving the clogged nasal cavity and gives you instant relief. Boil a pot of water. You can add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to this. Now, bend over the water and cover yourself with a thick towel. Make sure that no steam escapes. Take deep breaths for about five to ten minutes.

5. Pepper

Drinking hot soup which has been spiced with lots of pepper can also help in allaying allergic reactions. The hot soup would provide relief to your throat and the pepper would help in relieving the mucus from your nasal cavity. You can also add in lots of garlic to your soup as it helps in relieving allergic reactions.

6. Tea

Brewing up a hot cup of green tea can work wonders for your allergies. Green tea is rich in antioxidants that reduce the intensity of any allergic reaction. Drinking peppermint tea will provide instant relief to your nose and throat and will work as a decongestant.

7. Ginger

Ginger has amazing healing powers. Take a piece of ginger and chop it into fine pieces. Add this to a glass of warm water. You can also add a teaspoon of honey. Drink this concoction. Chew on the ginger pieces as the juice of ginger is extremely beneficial in unblocking the mucus.

If you are prone to allergies, eating a healthy diet rich in Vitamin C would help you to ward off allergies. Make sure you include probiotics to your daily diet, as these boost your immune system.
