7 – Easy Ways to Care for Oily and Greasy Hair

Your mane can work wonders for the way you look and feel. But, if you have oily hair, chances are that no matter how hard you try to take care of it, your hair looks greasy and unwashed. This can be quite annoying. Do you know why this happens? Your hair and scalp is protected from getting too dry by some oil glands. However, when these glands secrete too much oil, your hair tends to get oily.

1, The Right Shampoo

In case you have oily hair, it would be a good idea to shampoo your hair daily. Make sure that you get a shampoo that has been specially formulated for oily hair. If your scalp and hair strands are both oily, then such a shampoo would suffice. However, if you have an oily scalp but dry strands, you would have to use a conditioner to keep the shafts silky soft and smooth.

Remember that the conditioner should only be applied to the hair strands and not to the scalp. It is very important that you rinse your hair properly after every shampoo and conditioning session. Any residue of soap or cream in the hair could make your hair look oilier.

2, Oil Massage – A Must

In case you thought that oil massages are meant only for people with dry hair, think again. Your hair needs nourishment, which is why you need to treat it with oil. Limit this to only once a week. Massage your hair with a mixture of coconut oil and almond oil. You can add in a few drops of tea tree oil to. Use this to massage your hair and scalp. Wash your hair with a good shampoo after an hour. Make sure to wash off all the oil.

3, Say No to Too much Brushing

Studies have proved that brushing your hair activates the oil glands in your scalp. If you have oily hair, too much brushing can actually increase the greasiness of your hair. So, limit the brushing of your hair to once or twice a day.

4, Aloe Vera

Did you know that the gel of Aloe Vera can actually help in preventing the greasiness of your hair? Add a teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel to a cup of shampoo. Mix in a tablespoon of lemon juice. Use this mixture to wash your hair daily. This will prevent your hair from getting to oily.

5, Vinegar

The acidic properties of Vinegar can help in reducing the oil secretion from the oil glands in the scalp. To one cup of water, mix two tablespoons of white vinegar. Use this mixture to rinse you hair after shampooing. Then use lukewarm water for the final rinse.

6, Tea

Tea contains tannic acid which has astringent properties. So, it works wonders to reduce the greasiness of the hair. Add some tea leaves to a glass of water and bring it to boil. Let it cool. When the mixture is lukewarm, apply this to your hair. After some time wash your hair as usual, using shampoo and water.

7, Henna

Henna is an amazing hair conditioner, which is why henna treatment for hair quite popular. It is also used for coloring grey hair. However, it is also quite good in reducing oiliness of the hair, thanks to its drying effect. So applying henna to your hair every fortnight can help in curbing that greasy look. It would be a good idea to add in some curd to the pack.

Drinking lots of water and eating a balanced diet will ensure that your hair stays healthy and retains its bounce and shine. Protecting your hair from dust and sun will also go a long way in reducing the oiliness of your hair.
