6 STEPS TO THE PERFECT DIY FOOT SPA

Foot Spa At Home

A day at the foot spa is every woman’s dream, especially after a long week at work. The soothing oils and lotions, the massage and best of all the cleansing, but who has the time and all that amount of money to make a trip to the spa every single week? Besides let’s face the facts ladies, most of us are just downright too lazy to get up, get dressed and go out of the house on the weekend, even if it is to the spa. What if I told you that you could have your own foot spa treatment in the comfort of your own house? Not just that, you can do it as and when you please, maybe even everyday when you get home from work or after partying hard all night in those heels or maybe just something you deserve after chasing the kids around at home.

Before we begin, here is an easy DIY foot scrub that you can use in case you do not wish to buy a scrub.

Here’s what you’ll need:
1 Tbsp Baking Soda
1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
1Tbsp Olive Oil
Mix all the ingredients together and voila! It’s ready!

Let’s begin! Here’s how to treat your feet right:

1. Prep a “Me Spot” at Home

Find a comfy little corner in your house, perhaps your favourite music and don’t be afraid to spoil yourself with some scented candles. This is after all a time to pamper yourself. Make sure you won’t be disturbed and most of all relax!

2. Clean Those Nails

– Use a nail polish remover to get rid of any old nail polish and cut your nails to the desired length. Remember cutting straight across is the best way to go.
– File your nails down so that there are no sharp edges.

3. Foot Soak

Ah! The best part of the spa is already here. I’d suggest devoting at least 20 minutes of your time to this part or maybe even longer if you have the time to spare.

– Fill some warm water in a tub.
– Add some milk, rock salt and your favourite essential oil (I suggest a few drops of lavender oil). The essential oil can be excluded in case you are allergic to it.
– As weird as this may seem, you could add Listerine to the warm water. It helps soften any calluses and cleanses you feet.
– Sit back and relax. Watch your favourite serial or get lost in that book that you’ve been dying to read.
– Let your feet soak for 20 minutes and then dry them with a clean, fresh towel

4. Bye-Bye Dead Skin

-Now that your feet are dry, grab that pot of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly and massage a little on the cuticles of your toes. It will help soften it further.
– While you give the petroleum jelly some time to activate, grab your pumice stone and scrub the bottom of your feet. Get rid of any dead skin that may cause your feet to get callous and crack, harboring infections.
– Take your cuticle pusher and gently push back the cuticles of your toe nails.
– Using your foot scrub, scrub your feet. The brown sugar acts as an exfoliate agent, while the baking soda removes any impurities that may cause a fungal infection and the olive oil nourishes the skin.
– Don’t forget the gaps between your toes.
– Once you are done scrubbing, wash your feet off with water and towel it dry.

5. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!

– Using either almond, coconut or olive oil, massage your feet thoroughly.
– Don’t be afraid to go a little crazy with this step, there is no such thing as too much moisturizer, plus the massaging not only helps moisturize your skin but also helps increase blood circulation.

6. Paint those Nails

Now that you’ve reached the end of your spa (sad, I know), go ahead and paint those nails. Go bright and bold or subtle and professional. Just be sure that you are happy with the outcome at the end of it!

There you have it! The perfect foot spa at home! I know that you were tempted to try it. Don’t forget peeps, this doesn’t only work as something you can do to pamper yourself, go ahead and pamper your lady, your mother, your sister or even your friend!
